About 70% of GTA 6's buildings can be entered
The claim
Leaks put the share of enterable buildings in GTA 6 at around 70%, alongside a map of three major cities and four smaller ones.
Rumor Circulating widely but not officially confirmed. Treat with caution.
Updated August 28. The showing did not touch this claim. We expected the Extended Look to be a partial test of it. On inspection it is not a test at all, and the reason is worth reading before you see this page cited as evidence either way. Interiors were shown, but every one of them was a location a mission took the characters into: an apartment where a drug deal happens, an elevator, a nightclub, the floors of a tower. Nobody entered an ordinary building at will. No outlet watching reported a door opening without a loading screen, and an elevator is the oldest load-masking device in the genre. Rockstar said nothing about interiors, doors or loading in any of its material that day. The claim stays exactly where it was, at rumor, untouched.
What did move, slightly, is elsewhere. In a preview interview Rob Nelson said “you can enter a lot of buildings, a lot, a huge number”, and in one hands-off demonstration he pulled into a gas station and went inside to rob the cashier, which is an ordinary business entered in free roam rather than a scripted interior. That is the best evidence yet that the answer is “many”. It is still not a number, and Rockstar has never published one.
The number that keeps circulating is 70%, and it is the least supported of the three numbers in circulation. Rockstar has never published a figure for how many buildings in Leonida can be entered. Everything below comes from leaks and from people reading trailer footage.
We do not host or link leaked material. This is about the claim.
Three numbers, not one claim
The reason to treat this carefully is that the figures do not agree, and they never have:
| Figure | What came with it |
|---|---|
| ~70% enterable | Paired with a map of 3 major cities and 4 sub-cities. Circulated from a TikTok leak and repeated widely. |
| ~67% enterable | A separate leak, no supporting detail. |
| ~40% enterable | Paired with 700+ interiors, all smaller shops enterable, and destruction physics on around 60% of small buildings. |
Three sources, three answers, spread across different leaks at different times. That is not three people confirming a thing. That is three people saying different things about a thing, and the coverage picking whichever number reads best in a headline.
The 40% version is the only one that comes with anything checkable attached to it. A raw percentage with nothing behind it is the easiest kind of leak to invent.
Nobody has defined “building”
This is the problem underneath the numbers, and it is why even a true figure would tell you very little.
Is a building a structure with a door? A structure with a street address? Does a strip mall with eight units count once or eight times? Are the apartment blocks that make up most of a city one building each, or one building per unit? A map can go from 20% to 80% enterable on the same code, depending only on what the person quoting the figure decided to count.
Until somebody states the unit, the percentage is not a specification. It is a vibe with a decimal point.
What the series has actually done
For scale, Grand Theft Auto V shipped with a small number of enterable interiors relative to the size of its city. Most were tied to missions, to purchasable properties, or to a handful of shops, and the great majority of Los Santos was facade. That was normal for the generation, and it is still roughly normal now: hand-built interiors are expensive, and every one of them has to be lit, populated, and made worth walking into.
A jump to 70% would not be an increment on that. It would be a different kind of game, and it would be the headline feature of the marketing rather than a number that surfaced through a leak. That is the strongest argument against it, and it is an argument from plausibility, which is not proof either.
The cities claim rides along with it
The same leak that carries 70% also carries the map structure: three major cities and four smaller ones. That has not been confirmed either. Rockstar has named Vice City and shown Port Gellhorn and Leonard County among other places, and official copy describes Leonida as a state rather than a single city, but no count of cities has been published. Our locations database lists only places with a traceable source, which is why it does not add up to anyone’s leaked total.
What would settle it
The Extended Look on August 27 is the nearest test, and it is a partial one. Extended open-world footage would show whether characters walk into ordinary buildings as a matter of course or whether the camera stays outside, which is a real signal even though it cannot produce a percentage. Press impressions are reported to land the same day, from a hands-off demonstration rather than hands-on time, so they are a second description of footage rather than someone testing doors.
A number only becomes real if Rockstar publishes one. If that happens, it moves to our features page sourced to the announcement. Until then it stays here at rumor.
Related claims
The August footage produced a cluster of claims that all carry the same discount, because they come from one leak read by many outlets rather than from many sources: the honor system, the six-star wanted level, the stamina meter and the vehicle fuel system. The map-size claim has its own entry. Background on the leak itself is on the August 2026 leak, and the standing lesson about treating leaked builds as final is here.
