Rumor September 17, 2026

Twitch's CEO said GTA 6 multiplayer is coming in 2027. Rockstar has not

Dan Clancy told Bloomberg that Twitch talked with Rockstar about its plans, and that a bigger viewership bump comes "next year when they launch multiplayer." That is a named executive speaking after those talks. It is not a Rockstar announcement, and 2027 is a twelve-month window.

Twitch chief executive Dan Clancy told Bloomberg that Grand Theft Auto VI multiplayer is coming next year. The interview was published September 17, 2026, from Tokyo Game Show. The line that travelled:

We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators. You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.

Bloomberg’s piece is Twitch CEO Urges Game Firms to Avoid Attention Vortex of GTA 6. The Verge, Eurogamer, VGC, GameSpot and PC Gamer all quote the same two sentences. Rockstar has published nothing that matches them.

What this is, and what it is not

Clancy is not a leaker. He is the CEO of a platform Rockstar already uses for Drops and creator programmes, and he said those talks happened. That is more than an anonymous post. It is still not the Newswire, not a store-listing change, and not a date.

Three limits on the quote:

  • “Next year” is 2027, all of it. January and December are both next year from September 2026. Eurogamer made that point on purpose. A window that wide is not a schedule.
  • He is describing Twitch viewership, not confirming a product name, a price, or a lobby size. “When they launch multiplayer” is the assumption inside the sentence.
  • Take-Two, the same day, would only talk about the single-player launch and about continuing to support GTA V Online. Zelnick did not date a GTA 6 online mode either.

Rockstar’s own pre-order materials still call GTA 6 “a single-player experience.” The one place it has described an online mode in its own words is an employment tribunal. That filing has no year in it. The full split is on the online page.

How this sits next to the December rumor

A separate claim, from a Call of Duty leaker, put a GTA 6 online mode in December 2026, about a month after launch. We already rate that as rumor, because it matches Rockstar’s own 2013 and 2018 gaps and was posted without documents. Clancy’s 2027 line points the other way: not two weeks later, not one month later, sometime in the following calendar year.

They cannot both be right in the strong form. Neither is a Rockstar date. We are logging Clancy’s claim on the leak tracker as GTA 6 Online launches in 2027, next to the December 2026 version.

A real announcement will show up on the Rockstar Newswire, and the store pages will change on the same day. Until then, November 19 is still single-player.
