Rumor Release Rated September 17, 2026

GTA 6 Online launches in 2027

The claim

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said Grand Theft Auto VI multiplayer will launch next year, in 2027, after talks with Rockstar.

Rumor Circulating widely but not officially confirmed. Treat with caution.

A CEO said it. Rockstar did not. On September 17, 2026, Twitch chief executive Dan Clancy told Bloomberg, from Tokyo Game Show:

We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators. You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.

The first sentence is why this is on the tracker at all. Clancy is describing conversations with Rockstar, not reading a forum post. The second sentence is the claim: multiplayer, next year, which from September 2026 means calendar 2027.

What Rockstar has actually said

Publicly, nothing that dates an online mode. Pre-order copy and Sony’s PlayStation Blog FAQ still describe GTA 6 as a single-player experience. Take-Two’s annual meeting, the same day as Clancy’s interview, restated November 19 as a single-player launch on Xbox and PS5 and said GTA V Online keeps running. See what is confirmed about GTA 6 Online.

The tribunal filing that refers to “an unannounced online service” still has no year in it.

Why 2027 is a weak date even if the talks were real

“Next year” is January through December. Eurogamer flagged that on purpose. A window that wide can absorb almost any delay and still look right in hindsight. Clancy is also talking about Twitch viewership, which is his business, not Rockstar’s ship calendar.

It does cut against the other rumor on this topic, that online follows the campaign by about a month in December 2026. A 2027 launch is closer to how long Red Dead Online spent becoming a finished product than to GTA Online’s 14-day gap in 2013. Precedent supports both guesses. That is why neither is evidence.

Our rating

Rumor. The speaker is named, the talks may well have happened, and the direction (not at launch, later than two weeks) matches everything Take-Two will say on the record. Treat 2027 as one executive’s working assumption, not a date, and wait for the Rockstar Newswire.
