Sony's two GTA 6 DualSense controllers cost more than the game, and pre-orders open September 10
Sony revealed a black and a white Grand Theft Auto VI DualSense at the September 3 State of Play. Both are $84.99, five dollars more than the Standard Edition of the game itself, both ship on November 19, and pre-orders open September 10 at 7:00am PT in limited quantities. The black one is a PlayStation Direct exclusive in the markets where it is sold that way. No Xbox controller and no PS5 bundle has been announced.
Sony is selling two Grand Theft Auto VI DualSense controllers, and pre-orders open on Wednesday September 10. They cost $84.99 each, which is five dollars more than the $79.99 Standard Edition of the game they are themed after. Both ship on November 19, the same day as GTA 6.
This is an official Sony product announcement, not a leak and not a rumour, which makes it a rare thing in a GTA 6 news week. The details below come from PlayStation’s own blog post.
The two editions
Sony revealed them at the State of Play on September 3, 2026. There is a Black Limited Edition and a White Limited Edition, and the split is a time of day rather than a feature difference.

Both share the same physical treatment: a colour-shifting finish that Sony describes as the hues of a Vice City sunset against neon light, palm tree details moulded into the grips, and Grand Theft Auto VI branding. The hardware underneath is a standard DualSense. Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, no extra buttons, no back paddles, nothing the Edge controller has. You are paying for the finish.
When pre-orders actually open
September 10, at these times. Sony is selling them in limited quantities through
direct.playstation.com, and eligible direct pre-orders get free launch day delivery.

Update, September 11, 2026: pre-orders opened and PlayStation Direct collapsed under the load. Best Buy sold out of the white controller within minutes and resellers were listing at $130 to $195 the same day.
“Limited quantities” is Sony’s own wording, and it is the part worth planning around. The PS5 Pro sold out across US retailers after the Extended Look and hit $1,299 resale against a $899.99 list price. A limited run of GTA 6 controllers going up ten weeks before the biggest launch of the year will attract the same behaviour. If you want one at list price, buy it on the 10th from Sony or a named retailer, and treat any listing that appears before that as a scam.
The price is the story
A DualSense normally lists at $74.99. The limited editions are $84.99, so the GTA 6 tax is ten dollars, which is in line with what Sony charged for previous themed controllers.

The controller costs more than the game. That is not a criticism of the pricing, it is a genuinely useful thing to know before you open two tabs on the 10th, because the pair together runs $164.98 before you have bought a console. What has not been announced
Three things people are already asking about, and the honest answer to all three is that Sony and Rockstar have said nothing:
- No Xbox controller. Microsoft has announced no GTA 6 themed controller. Given that the game is a simultaneous release on Xbox Series X and S, one is plausible. It does not exist today.
- No GTA 6 PS5 console bundle. Sony has bundled hardware with big releases before and has not done it here. There is no announced console, no faceplate set, and no headset.

A controller is a cosmetic accessory. It does not change how GTA 6 runs, it is not required for anything in the game, and buying one has no effect on your copy. The console requirements page has the model by model position on what actually matters for playing on November 19.
