Can PS4 or Xbox One run GTA 6?

Nothing has been announced. Xbox Cloud Gaming would be technically possible because an Xbox Series version exists, but it needs Microsoft and Rockstar to enable it. GeForce Now streams PC versions, so it cannot carry GTA 6 until a PC version exists.

Rockstar has confirmed these platforms:

That is the whole list. There is no PS4 version, no Xbox One version, and no PC version at launch. GTA 6 is a current-generation only release. That choice lets Rockstar build around fast SSD streaming and more memory than last-gen hardware could offer.

PS5, PS5 Pro, and PS5 Digital

Every PS5 model plays GTA 6. The disc PS5 and the PS5 Digital are the same machine inside. The only difference is the disc drive, so they perform identically. GTA 6 is a digital download either way. The PS5 Pro is the more powerful model, with a stronger GPU and Sony’s PSSR upscaling. In other games it can push higher resolution or steadier frame rates. Rockstar has not confirmed any Pro-specific enhancements for GTA 6, so treat sharper Pro visuals as likely but unconfirmed until Rockstar says so. You do not need a Pro to play.

Set expectations on the right axis, though. The Pro’s advantage is its GPU; its CPU is close to the base PS5’s. A Rockstar developer has said the current console build runs at 30 FPS, and the analysis of the Extended Look footage points at the simulation, which is CPU work, as the thing holding the frame rate down. Xbox Series S vs Series X

Both Xbox consoles run GTA 6. They are not equal.

Xbox Series X is the high-end model. It targets higher resolutions and is the closest Xbox match to the base PS5.
Xbox Series S is the budget model, with a weaker GPU and less memory. It will run GTA 6 at lower resolution and reduced detail. Every current-gen game must run on the Series S, so the game will be built to fit, just with the visuals scaled down.

On the Series S, storage is the bigger worry than raw power.

How much storage will GTA 6 need

Rockstar has not published an install size, so any specific number, including the widely shared 200 GB figure, is a rumor rather than a spec. For scale only, GTA 5 runs roughly 90 GB on current consoles and Red Dead Redemption 2 roughly 120 to 150 GB. That is series precedent, not a GTA 6 fact.

Usable storage matters more than the number on the box, because the operating system reserves a chunk. An 825 GB PS5 gives about 667 GB, a 1 TB PS5 about 842 GB, a 1 TB Xbox Series X about 802 GB, and a 512 GB Xbox Series S only about 364 GB, which is the tightest fit on the market.

Why GTA 6 needs an SSD

Current-gen consoles stream the open world of Leonida off a fast internal NVMe SSD. That is how the world loads as you drive without long pauses. You cannot play a current-gen game from a plug-in USB hard drive. You can archive a game there, but it has to sit on the internal SSD or a compatible expansion drive to run.

To add space:

PS5: install a compatible M.2 NVMe SSD in the internal expansion slot.
Xbox Series X and S: add an official Storage Expansion Card, which plugs into the back and performs like the built-in drive.

To play on day one you need a PS5, PS5 Pro, or an Xbox Series X or S. Everything else is either ruled out or unannounced.

Why last-gen and PC are out

PS4 and Xbox One: not supported. There is no cross-gen version and no way to stream GTA 6 to older hardware. This is a break from GTA 5, which launched on the previous generation first.
PC: no release at launch. Across the series, PC versions have historically arrived one to two years after console. A GTA 6 PC port is plausible on that pattern but has not been dated by Rockstar. We track every signal on the PC port page.

Switch 2, and how we know

Rockstar has never announced GTA 6 for any Nintendo platform. There is a stronger piece of evidence than the absence of an announcement, though, and it comes from Take-Two itself.

In its fiscal Q1 2027 results, Take-Two published its forthcoming lineup. Two rows matter:

The company lists Switch 2 and PC for a title shipping two months earlier, and does not list either for GTA 6. In a document a publisher has to stand behind, that omission is a decision rather than an oversight.

Steam Deck and cloud streaming

These come down to what each service actually streams:

Steam Deck runs PC games. No PC version, no Steam Deck. When a PC port is announced, this becomes a question about frame rates rather than about whether it runs at all.
GeForce Now and Amazon Luna stream PC versions of games you own. Same dependency, same answer.
Xbox Cloud Gaming streams the Xbox build, which does exist. So this one is genuinely possible rather than ruled out. It still needs Microsoft and Rockstar to agree to it, and neither has said anything.
PS Plus Premium streaming is in the same position as Xbox Cloud Gaming: possible, unannounced.

Treat anything that claims a cloud launch date as invented until it appears on the Rockstar Newswire.

What to do before launch

Check your free space now, and start clearing room if you are near full. The file size page has the numbers per console.
If you own a 512 GB Series S or a nearly full console, look at a compatible expansion SSD.
Set up preload so the download finishes before the unlock rather than after it.
