Spotify put the GTA 6 artist art on billboards. That is still not a soundtrack
On September 16 Spotify posted four photos of outdoor boards carrying the same GTA 6-style artwork artists had shared the day before. The caption was one emoji. Rockstar has still not named a song, a station, a DJ, or an in-game Spotify feature.
Update, September 17, 2026. The soundtrack those boards were selling is now a record: Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, 34 original tracks, six singles streaming. Spotify is one of the services carrying it. That still does not put Spotify inside the game. The rest of this page is the September 16 facts, left as written.
Spotify posted billboard photos of the Grand Theft Auto VI artwork that musicians had put on their own accounts a day earlier. The post went up on September 16, 2026, at x.com/Spotify. The caption is one emoji. There is no Newswire from Rockstar, no named track, and no statement that Spotify will play inside the game.
This is the second day of the same campaign. Day one was artists posting the art. Day two is Spotify putting larger crops of it on street boards. The facts got bigger. The confirmation did not.
What Spotify actually posted
The X post has four photographs and the caption ”👀”. That is the whole statement. IGN, looking at those photos, placed boards in Los Angeles and New York. GTA Boom, GTAVice and RockstarINTEL also report Miami. We are treating Los Angeles and New York as the cities IGN would stand behind, and Miami as coverage that has not been matched by IGN.
The images are the same painted-collage look as the September 15 artist posts: the sports car, the yacht, the other crops. Spotify’s logo sits on the boards. We are not hosting the photos.
A streaming company putting Rockstar-style art on outdoor advertising is a marketing partnership in practice. It is not a signed deal we can quote. Until Rockstar or Take-Two publishes it, the evidence is Spotify’s post.
What this still does not confirm
- A soundtrack. Nobody named a song yesterday. Nobody named one today.
- A radio station or a DJ job for Travis Scott, Future, Morgan Wallen, Keith Richards, or anyone else in that set.
- Spotify inside GTA 6. Players can already guess that from a logo on a billboard. Neither company has announced in-game playlists, exclusive drops, or a companion soundtrack. Precedent from older GTA soundtrack albums is not this announcement.
- Trailer 3. Take-Two’s virtual shareholder meeting is later on September 17. Its published agenda is still director votes, pay, a charter amendment and the auditor.
The songs that are actually confirmed stay on the soundtrack page. These boards do not join that list.
Why the spend exists, in Zelnick’s words
The same day, Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick sat for a GamesBeat interview in New York and answered the investor question of why you market a game everybody has already heard of. His version: awareness is not enthusiasm. If the marketing is terrible you can turn people off. If it is good you can create more excitement. The job, for this launch as for any other, is “to take awareness and turn it into excitement, and take the lack of awareness and turn it into awareness.”
That is a strategy remark, not a tracklist. The Spotify boards are what that spend looks like on a street.
