Take-Two reiterates November 19 for GTA 6 and publishes no pre-order number
Q1 net bookings came in at $1.39 billion, down 3%. Take-Two reaffirmed the November 19 launch and its $8.0 to $8.2 billion full-year outlook, and disclosed no GTA 6 pre-order figure.
Take-Two reported its fiscal first quarter on August 7, 2026, reaffirmed the November 19 launch date for Grand Theft Auto VI, and gave no pre-order number. Net bookings for the quarter were $1.39 billion, down 3% year over year and slightly above the company’s own guidance range. Full-year fiscal 2027 net bookings guidance was reiterated at $8.0 to $8.2 billion.
The date appears twice in the release, which is the part that matters most here.
November 19 confirmed twice over
Chairman and chief executive Strauss Zelnick, in the release:
Our excellent first quarter results reflect the power of our portfolio and disciplined execution across all of our labels. With these positive trends and excitement around the November 19th launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, we are reiterating our Fiscal 2027 Net Bookings outlook of $8.0 to $8.2 billion.
It also appears in the forthcoming-releases table, where Take-Two lists its announced lineup:
| Label | Product | Platforms | Release date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rockstar Games | Grand Theft Auto VI | PS5, Xbox Series X|S | November 19, 2026 |
| 2K | NBA 2K27 | PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, PC | September 4, 2026 |
A date in a filed lineup table alongside a full-year forecast built on it is a firmer commitment than a marketing statement. It is not a guarantee, and Take-Two has moved this date twice before, but the company is now forecasting against it publicly. Our release date page tracks the status.
There is no pre-order figure, and that was expected
Nothing in the release quantifies GTA 6 pre-orders. That is the accounting working as it should rather than the company withholding good news.
A pre-order is not recognised when it is placed. It sits as deferred revenue until the game is delivered, which for GTA 6 means the quarter containing November 19. The reported quarter ended June 30 and pre-orders opened on June 25, so only five days fell inside it, and even those five days do not convert into a recognised figure.
This is worth holding onto over the next few days, because net bookings decreased 3% to $1.39 billion from $1.42 billion. Anyone reading that as weak GTA 6 demand is reading the wrong quarter with the wrong metric.
Any number you see attributed to GTA 6 pre-orders comes from a research firm estimating from outside, not from Take-Two. The most-cited is Newzoo, which put roughly $180 million of digital pre-order spend across the United States and the five largest European markets in the final week of June, and extrapolated about $260 million globally, calling it the strongest pre-order campaign on record. Treat it as a modelled estimate of one week in a handful of markets rather than a total. Newzoo itself has pushed back on the viral billion-dollar version of its own figure.
The rest of the quarter, briefly
- GAAP net revenue was $1.53 billion, against $1.50 billion a year earlier.
- GAAP net loss was $34.1 million, or $0.18 per share, widening from a $11.9 million loss and $0.07 per share a year earlier.
- That loss includes a $43.4 million impairment charge on an unannounced title from a third-party developer that Take-Two decided not to continue. It is unrelated to GTA 6, which is a Rockstar in-house production.
- Recurrent consumer spending made up 84% of net bookings, down 1%. The GTA series was among the largest contributors, which at this point means GTA Online rather than anything new.
The number that actually encodes GTA 6
The full-year figure is where the expectation sits. Reiterating $8.0 to $8.2 billion for a fiscal year ending March 31, 2027 means Take-Two is standing behind a forecast in which GTA 6 launches on November 19 and sells into the two quarters after it. Reiterating the range rather than raising it also means nothing in the first five days of pre-orders moved the company off its existing plan, in either direction.
Second-quarter guidance is the more revealing near-term line: $1.62 to $1.67 billion in net bookings with a projected net loss of $140 to $157 million. A loss that size in the quarter before launch is what a marketing campaign for a release this size looks like on a balance sheet.
What Zelnick said on the call
The written release carries no pre-order figure. On the 8:00 a.m. Eastern call, Zelnick characterised them without one:
The level of pre-orders is unprecedented and astonishing, and we’re very grateful for that.
He went further, saying no one has seen anything like it before at Take-Two or in the industry. He still declined to give a number.
The more useful half is the caution he attached to it, which is not the tone a publisher usually takes when the news is good. He noted that nothing has actually been sold yet, that pre-orders can be cancelled, and that the level is so far outside precedent that the company does not know how it converts into sales. His phrasing was that they do not believe in claiming victory before it occurs.
That is worth taking at face value. A pre-order is a refundable reservation, not a sale, and the gap between the two has never been tested at this scale.
Other ground covered:
- The Netflix deal. Zelnick called the Extended Look arrangement “a first-of-its-kind venture” and Netflix “a great partner”, said Rockstar arranged it as part of its own marketing strategy, and declined to say whether Netflix paid a premium for the six-hour exclusive window.
- Marketing reach. He described the goal as being on every social media channel on earth, which is the plainest signal so far that the campaign is now fully underway.
- The $80 price. He argued game prices have not kept pace with inflation and called GTA 6 an incredible bargain at that price. Compare the editions yourself on the pre-order guide.
What still was not addressed
Nothing was said about a GTA 6 online mode, and nothing about a PC version. Both remain exactly where they were: no online mode announced for launch, and no dated PC release. Nothing new on preload or file size either, beyond what Rockstar has already published.
