Maibatsu Penumbra

Maibatsu's Penumbra takes its two-door coupe shape from the Mitsubishi Eclipse, with autoevolution and others noting extra cues borrowed from cars like the Dodge Dart and Audi TT blended into the body. The Penumbra ran in GTA V as an affordable sport compact, so GTA 6 brings back a known name rather than a new one. It was identified in Trailer 2 within Vice City's regular traffic.

The Eclipse is a product of a joint venture that no longer exists. Diamond-Star Motors was formed by Mitsubishi and Chrysler in the mid-1980s, and its plant in Normal, Illinois built the Eclipse alongside its rebadged twins, the Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser, from 1989. The desirable versions paired the 4G63 turbocharged four-cylinder with all-wheel drive, a combination lifted from the Lancer rally programme and sold at a price a graduate could reach.

That specification is why the car matters to the aftermarket. The 4G63 tolerated boost well beyond its factory setting, parts were cheap and plentiful, and the result was a decade of street cars making numbers that embarrassed more expensive machinery. A green second-generation Eclipse opened The Fast and the Furious in 2001, which fixed the car in popular memory as the entry point to import tuning. Maibatsu serves as one of GTA's Japanese marques, which fits. What Rockstar has shown is the car in traffic; no performance data, tuning options, or in-game availability have been announced.
