Bravado Banshee

The Banshee is one of GTA's oldest sports cars, running back to Grand Theft Auto III, and it has always been the series' Dodge Viper: a long-hooded, two-seat American roadster with a big front engine. It turns up in official GTA 6 trailer footage carrying that silhouette forward.

The Viper deserves the reputation the Banshee inherits. Chrysler showed it as a concept in 1989 and put it on sale in 1992 with an 8.0-litre V10 derived from a truck engine, a curb weight kept down by leaving things out, and a specification that reads as deliberate provocation: no anti-lock brakes, no traction control, no airbags, no exterior door handles, and side pipes routed along the sills hot enough to burn a leg on exit. The roof was a snap-on canvas cover and the windows were plastic curtains. It got a coupe in 1996, the GTS, with the double-bubble roof, and it slowly acquired the safety equipment it had launched without. It never acquired forgiveness. The Viper kept a reputation for punishing sloppy inputs right through to the final cars in 2017, and the racing versions won at Le Mans and Daytona in the meantime.

That is the character the Banshee carries in GTA: fast in a straight line, unhappy about being asked to do two things at once. Whether GTA 6 preserves any of it is unknown. Rockstar has published no handling model, no performance figures, and no name confirmation for the car in the trailer footage.
