The GTA 6 PC port "sooner than expected" story is one sentence on a podcast
VGC editor Andy Robinson said on the September 4 podcast that he thinks Rockstar will push the PC version up and that there is "a bit of noise" about it. That is the whole source. The rising console prices explanation attached to every headline since is the outlets filling in what he meant, not something he said, and Rockstar has still announced no PC version at all.
A GTA 6 PC port arriving “sooner than expected” is currently one journalist’s read of industry chatter, said out loud on a podcast, and nothing more. It has been on the front of a dozen gaming sites since September 5. No document, no store page, no Rockstar or Take-Two statement sits underneath it.
That does not make it worthless. Andy Robinson is VGC’s editor-in-chief and has broken real Rockstar stories. It does mean the thing being reported is a well-connected reporter’s hunch, and the headlines have quietly upgraded it into a plan.
What was actually said
The remark came on the VGC podcast episode published September 4, 2026, the one about GTA 6 pushing console sales. Robinson, quoted the same way by every outlet that picked it up:
“I do think they’ll push the PC version up. There is a bit of noise about that. That perhaps the PC version might arrive sooner than some people might expect just because of everything that’s going on.”
Three separate things are in there, and they are not equally strong:
| The claim | What it rests on |
|---|---|
| ”I do think they’ll push the PC version up” | Robinson’s opinion, stated as an opinion |
| ”There is a bit of noise about that” | Unnamed industry chatter, no sourcing given |
| ”because of everything that’s going on” | Deliberately vague. He does not say what |
The remark is in the audio. It is not in the episode’s show notes, and VGC did not publish it as a news story of its own, which is the usual sign that a site is not standing behind something as reporting.
The console-price explanation is not his
Nearly every write-up glossed “everything that’s going on” as rising console prices. TweakTown put it in the headline. That reasoning is coherent, and the price moves behind it are real and checkable, but it was supplied by the outlets, not by Robinson.
What has genuinely happened to console prices this year:
- PlayStation 5: $649.99, up from $549.99, and the PS5 Pro: $899.99, up from $749.99. Sony announced the increase on March 27 and it took effect April 2, 2026, blamed on “continued pressures in the global economic landscape”.
- Xbox Series X: $799.99, up from $649.99, and the Series S: $499.99, from August 1, 2026. Microsoft named the cause directly: console storage and memory prices have risen more than 2.5 times, driven by AI data centre demand for DRAM.
So the argument the coverage is making on Robinson’s behalf is that a GTA 6 buyer who does not already own a current console now faces an $800 to $900 entry fee, and that Rockstar would rather sell those people a PC copy than lose them. On top of that, the PS5 Pro is out of stock across major US retailers.
It is a sensible theory. It is still a theory, and it is worth noticing that the same conditions were true in April and produced no PC announcement.
What “sooner” would have to mean
Rockstar’s console-to-PC gap has grown across the series, so “sooner than expected” only has meaning against that record:
| Game | Console release | PC release | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA III | October 22, 2001 | May 20, 2002 | About 7 months |
| Vice City | October 27, 2002 | May 12, 2003 | About 6 months |
| San Andreas | October 26, 2004 | June 7, 2005 | About 7 months |
| GTA IV | April 29, 2008 | December 2, 2008 | About 7 months |
| GTA V | September 17, 2013 | April 14, 2015 | About 19 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 26, 2018 | November 5, 2019 | 1 year and 10 days |
Every estimate you have read for GTA 6 on PC, including ours, comes from applying the GTA V and RDR2 end of that table to November 19, 2026, which lands somewhere in late 2027 to 2028. For Robinson’s remark to mean anything, the gap would have to come in under a year, which the series has not done since GTA IV in 2008 and Rockstar has not done on any game since.
What would actually settle it
None of these exist today. Any one of them would move this off the rumour page:
- A PC store page, on Steam, the Epic Games Store or the Rockstar Store. There is none, and third party “GTA 6 PC pre-order” listings remain a scam risk.
- Published PC system requirements. Rockstar has released none.
- A Take-Two earnings remark placing a PC version in a fiscal year. The company has talked about November 19 and about the pipeline behind it, and has said nothing about PC.
- A Newswire post. Rockstar’s platform list for GTA 6 is still PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, and has been since the first trailer.
Until one of those turns up, the honest status of a GTA 6 PC port is the same as it was in December 2023: almost certainly happening, on no announced timeline. Our PC page tracks it, and the release date page covers what is actually dated.
