Rockstar has 99 GTA 6 screenshots on its own site now, and three of them were new
The GTA 6 media page carries 99 screenshots, 22 artwork and wallpaper files, three trailers and nine clips. Coverage has reported 20, 29, 30, 99 and 268 as the number of new images, because three different things happened in five days and most write-ups counted a consolidation as a release. Three screenshots were genuinely new, added on August 31.
Rockstar’s own media page for Grand Theft Auto VI now holds 99 screenshots. Three of them had never been seen before when they went up on August 31, 2026. The rest is a tidy-up of material that was already public, and that distinction is the reason the last week of coverage has produced five different numbers for the same event.
Counts published since the Extended Look: 20, 29, 30, 99, 268. None of them is a lie. They are counting different things.
What is actually on the page
Checked on September 5, 2026, at rockstargames.com/VI/media:
| Section | Count |
|---|---|
| Screenshots | 99 |
| Artwork and wallpapers | 22 |
| Ultimate Edition benefits | 51 |
| Vintage Vice City Pack | 12 |
| Full trailers | 3 |
| Clips | 9 |
Each section downloads as a ZIP. The images are uncompressed, which is the actual point of the page and the part the headlines skipped.
Three events, not one
The confusion is chronological. Three separate things happened inside five days.
- August 27, the day of the Extended Look. Rockstar published a press batch, reported as 29 images, in uncompressed 4K. RockstarINTEL was explicit that these were “previously published and scattered across various publications” and that they are shots taken in-game, not frames pulled from the film.
- August 31. Three genuinely new screenshots appeared alongside that set. Push Square covered the fuller gallery a day later and put “30 new” in the headline, which is where most of the aggregation took its number from.
- Continuously. Third-party galleries count everything Rockstar has ever released. GameSpot’s sits at 268 images going back to Trailer 1. That is a different measurement again.
So: 99 is the current screenshot count on Rockstar’s page. Three were new on August 31. Neither number is “30 new screenshots”.
What the three new ones show
Per GameRant, which described them on the day:
- Lucia with piercings and Jason with slicked-back hair, with a drink from Chacer’s, an in-game restaurant.
- Jason and Lucia in working clothes, holding guns, looking down at something.
- The Tequesta Point Condos, a Vice City building.
The first is the interesting one, because hair and piercings are appearance options rather than fixed character art, and the Extended Look already showed a body that changes with what you eat. Rockstar has published no description of a character customisation system, and nobody should read one into a screenshot.
What this does and does not give you
It gives you source-quality images. Until August 27, most GTA 6 screenshots in circulation were re-compressed by whichever outlet published them first. The ZIPs are the originals. If you have been judging the game’s look from a JPEG that went through three sites, you have not seen it.
It gives you no new facts. No new named characters, no map information, no release detail. The screenshots are marketing assets, and the things people actually want answered, a control scheme, a performance mode, an install size, are on none of them. What is still missing is tracked on the Extended Look guide.
The date is unchanged: November 19, 2026, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
