A small rigid inflatable boat, the kind used as a tender or for quick coastal runs, sits among the clutter of watercraft in the opening moments of Trailer 2. SixShore files it under the descriptive "Dinghy" nickname because Rockstar has not confirmed an in-game name for this specific model.
The rigid inflatable came out of a school. Staff and students at Atlantic College in Wales spent the 1960s working on a rescue boat that could take surf without breaking up, and settled on a solid hull with an inflatable collar around the gunwale. The hull lets it plane and hold a course; the collar gives it buoyancy that makes it very hard to sink and lets it come alongside without damaging anything. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution adopted the concept and it became standard for rescue and boarding work. For a game the useful property is simpler: small, fast, and shallow enough to run onto a beach.
Earlier games carried a Nagasaki Dinghy through GTA IV and GTA V in several variants. Whether GTA 6 continues that name is unannounced.
