Listed by the PlayStation Store, not confirmed by Rockstar: a midnight local time unlock in 15 windows. The fan site GTAVice collected the timestamps from 63 storefronts on September 7, 2026, and we cover that on the news story.

Not known: the Xbox unlock times, whether Sony or Rockstar change the store timestamps before launch, and six storefronts (Bahrain, China, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman and Qatar) that showed no timestamp at all.

In July we called Rockstar’s local-clock preload a weak signal for a local-time unlock. The store listings now point the same way.

Why the US gets it almost last

Rockstar has used two patterns across its recent releases, and the PS5 listings use a bit of both.

Midnight local time. The next-gen version of Grand Theft Auto V went live at midnight local time in each region on March 15, 2022. Under this model, each timezone unlocks at 12:00 AM its own time, so players further east start first in absolute terms.
A single anchor time. Red Dead Redemption 2 unlocked at 12:00 AM US Eastern on October 26, 2018. That let the West Coast of the United States play from 9:00 PM the night before, while other regions converted from that one anchor. Rockstar did not formally announce it; the time surfaced through the console store countdowns.

Worldwide, GTA 6 follows the first pattern, which is why New Zealand is 18 hours ahead of New York. Inside the United States and Canada it behaves like the second, because each country is listed at one time. That is also the likeliest explanation for the 05:00 UTC time that appeared in store-listing screenshots earlier this summer and was read as a possible global unlock: 05:00 UTC is midnight Eastern, the US store’s window.

What about Xbox?

No one has published Microsoft Store timestamps for GTA 6, and the PlayStation schedule is not evidence of what Xbox does. Expect the Xbox times to surface through the store’s countdown in the final weeks. Until then, the timezone offsets below are the way to convert whatever time appears.

The New Zealand trick

Playing 18 hours early by borrowing New Zealand’s window is the most repeated tip of the month. On PS5 it takes a second PlayStation account registered to New Zealand, because an existing account’s country cannot be changed, and a second purchase of the game from the New Zealand store with a payment method that store accepts. On Xbox, changing the console region has unlocked other games early, but there are no Xbox times to jump to yet and nothing says it will work for GTA 6. Preload and getting ready

Preloads open on November 12, 2026 at midnight local time, a full week before the unlock. That is unusually generous for a launch this size, and it means the download should be finished long before your window opens. Our preload guide covers the console setup and the one catch for boxed copies.

The PlayStation storefront data is already out. What is still missing is Rockstar’s own confirmation and the Microsoft Store times. Across past launches both arrived in the final weeks, through store countdown timers and often a Rockstar Newswire post.
