Your GTA Online character transfers to GTA 6

The claim

GTA Online is setting up a way to bring your character, money or vehicles into GTA 6, with your player leaving San Andreas for Leonida.

Rumor Circulating widely but not officially confirmed. Treat with caution.

A hope with a story attached, not a leak. The theory reads GTA Online’s ongoing content as groundwork for a migration, with your character leaving San Andreas for Leonida and the save following them into GTA 6. It is assembled from interpretation of in-game material. No document, no statement, no source inside Rockstar.

What Rockstar has actually said

Nothing about any transfer of characters, money, vehicles, properties or rank. GTA 6 does not have an announced online mode for anything to transfer into.

Why it runs against the record

Rockstar has moved player progress within a game across console generations twice, in 2014 and 2022, because it was the same GTA Online each time. It has never moved progress between games: GTA IV’s multiplayer left nothing to GTA Online, and Red Dead Redemption’s multiplayer left nothing to Red Dead Online. Every online mode the studio has shipped started every player at zero.

There is also a design reason to doubt it. Thirteen years of accumulated GTA Online wealth arriving in a new economy would flatten its early game for the people carrying it and for everyone matched against them.

Our rating

Rumor, and a weak one. The full breakdown, including the console-generation transfers people cite as evidence, is on will your GTA Online money and cars transfer. Nothing has been announced, so any video explaining how to perform the transfer is describing a process that does not exist.
