The GTA 6 Extended Look is a three-episode Netflix series

Closed August 27. The Extended Look was one film of 26 minutes and 49 seconds, not three episodes totalling 67. The fabricated listing was wrong about the format and wrong about the length. What was actually in it.

The screenshot behind this was made up. For about a day in mid-August 2026 it was reported almost everywhere as a leak, and it is worth walking through how it fell apart, because the tell is one anybody could have checked.

The claim

A Reddit user posted an image said to be Netflix Portugal’s page for Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, showing it split into three episodes with individual runtimes. The figures usually quoted were around 23, 24 and 18 minutes, adding up to roughly 67 minutes rather than a single short film.

It was a good fake in the sense that it was a satisfying story. It made the Netflix deal make sense: a one-off video does not need a streaming partner, a three-part series does.

How it was caught

The decisive tell is structural, not artistic:

• The page furniture is in the wrong order. On a real Netflix title page the Episodes list sits above the More Details block. In the circulating image the two are reversed. That is not something a regional page varies.
• A sceptic rebuilt it in about two minutes. An X user posting as NurfPT used browser developer tools to produce a cleaner, more convincing version of the same fake, which demonstrates the whole problem: editing a live Netflix page in a browser and screenshotting it takes no skill and leaves no trace.
• Nobody else ever saw it. A Netflix listing for the most anticipated game on earth, live long enough to be photographed, and not one other person captured it. Pages that are genuinely live get archived, mirrored and re-shot within minutes.
• The retellings disagree with each other. Some coverage gave the runtimes to the second, as 23:37, 24:41 and 18:29. Others gave 22, 24 and 16. A real screenshot has one set of numbers on it.

Why this one travelled so well

It arrived pre-loaded with a plausible explanation for something people were already puzzling over, and it flattered the expectation that August 27 will be enormous. Fakes that confirm a hope you already hold need much less evidence to get through.

It also had a number in it. Specific figures read as evidence even when they are the part that was invented, which is the same mechanism behind the billion-dollar pre-order claim.

What is actually known about the format

Nothing about episode counts or runtime, from either company. Rockstar’s Newswire post is three sentences and gives no duration. Netflix’s own Tudum write-up gives none either.

The separate claim that the whole thing runs 20 minutes rests on a Netflix support chat and remains unverified rather than disproven. Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick has said it will feel like watching a Netflix show, and separately called August 27 “one of the hors d’oeuvres” with “appetizers, main course and dessert to follow”. Neither is a runtime, and the second one reads more naturally as a short piece in a long campaign than as a 67-minute series.

The rule this illustrates

A screenshot is not a source. It is a claim about what someone saw, and a browser makes it trivial to manufacture. Before a platform listing means anything, the page has to still be there, or enough independent people have to have seen it that the story does not rest on one deleted account.
